OpenOffice template formatting dissappears

Hi!

I use Open Office 3.0.1 on Windows Vista.
I've created a temeplate in .ott format. if i choose to make a new document with that temeplate everything works fine. The issue is that when i save the document as a .doc (win 97/XP) format, close the document and then reopen it the background images and theme have dissappeard from the document?

How can i resolve this?
and yes i need to save the files as the .doc format...

What do you mean by "theme"?

.doc filter has been made by reverse engineering because MS had kept the specification secret. So there may be such flaws at export.
