[Solved+Issue] How to create custom borders?

Post by magnoliasouth »

I know that colors can be customized, but how can borders be customized? Can we not import borders?

I did find this thread, which was really cool, but not exactly what I need at the moment.

These are a few borders that are just for an example. As you can see, the text thing wouldn't work. Also while the border arrows have starts and finishes, just like lines do in Draw, they're not the same thing. After all, a border is a border and a line is a line.

Can you be a little more specific:

What application are you working in?

What kind of border are you making; i.e., what are you trying to put the border around?

OOo provides precious little in the way of fancy borders--or even in the way of plain borders, for that matter--but you may be able to make your own, depending on exactly what you need.

I always thought that all of OpenOffice used the same borders in all applications. It is essential that I be able to use my border in all of them.

I need to make several dashed borders. Like in OpenOffice's borders, they come in various thicknesses. I would like to make several dashed borders in various thicknesses. The border would go around cells in Calc, text in Writer, an object or shape in Draw, etc.

You know how colors are customizable and when you create custom colors, they are available across all OO apps? That's what I'm specifically wanting to do, but instead of colors, I want borders.

Sorry, OOo doesn't support any kind of custom borders.

The general workaround is to use OOo's graphics to draw something that fills the role of the border, but of course it doesn't behave like a border.

Ah. Okay then. Well thank you for your response.

It's too bad. That would be a great feature! ;)

There are nearly 100 requests for enhancements to OOo's borders: Issue search.

I think the most relevant to your question might be these two:
Issue 8275: more border types (dashed, dotted, etc)
Issue 24923: Borders as graphics

You can register there and add your vote (up to two) or comment.
