For some reason, Open Office Writer isn't loading the Windows 8 math fonts correctly. Or maybe I should say it isn't interpreting them correctly? When I go to Windows 8 to see what fonts I have and what they look like, the math fonts clearly are full of math symbols. When I try to use them in Open Office, though, they show up as regular qwerty type faces. Is there some simple solution to this problem? Btw, all other symbol fonts are working just fine.
Thanks,
Angela

What are the names of the "Windows 8 math fonts"? How are you inserting the symbols in Writer? If you're using Insert > Special Character, did you scroll down to the Mathematical Operators subset?

Thank you, Bill. That works for some math symbols but it's missing a lot that I need.

From the comment in your uploaded document, I assume that you expect to get mathematical symbols just by pressing a key after you change to a "math font". That won't happen unless you install a different keyboard layout that maps the mathematical symbols to the keys. If you want to pursue that, try a Google search for "math keyboard layout". I have no experience with using a math keyboard. Another possibility is to use AutoHotKey to define keyboard shortcuts that insert special characters.

Thank you, Bill. I looked into the math keyboard layout and found just what I need. So, problem solved! Thanks again.

Or go Insert > Special character ..., and navigate to the required character. These are the mathematical operators sub-set.
