Cant open an Excel ???.sxls file in Calc

Postby harolddanglar » Thu Sep 19, 2019 7:33 pm

When I try clicking on the file, It takes me to OO but gives me a list all the file types that OO can open

Does it matter if the file is password protected?

Does OO have a file size limit? Mine is 2.4 MB

1. Start AOO
2. Go File > Open ..., and navigate to the file.
3. Highlight the file. Click Open.

What happens?

Or upload the file so that it can be analysed. Use the Upload attachment tab below where you type (128 kB max); or use a file share site, Dropbox or Google Drive for a larger file.

if the file is encrypted (you have to enter a password before the file is loaded), OpenOffice can not handle this. OpenOffice can open unencrypted xlsx but not save. Any xlsx opened with OpenOffice has to be saved as ods or xls.
https://libreoffice.org/ is the successor to OpenOffice. It handles more foreign file formats and it handles them way better than the old OpenOffice suite (e.g. load encryted MS Office files). Nevertheless, you should never edit any files in foreign file formats. Open them, save your own working copy in the native format of the application you are using and if absolutely necessary, save a copy in foreign file format when you finished editing the native file.

Yes. OpenOffice Calc can't open password protected .xls/.xlsx file. LibreOffice Calc can.

I suspect there is a file size limit, but what that limit is, I don't know.... I do know that it is far more than 2.4 MB, as I have spreadsheets that are in the GB range, and Calc opens them
