[Solved] Extending timeout value for links to external data
[Solved] Extending timeout value for links to external data
Hello All,
Is there a way to adjust (actually increase) the timeout value for links to external data?
Some pages I am getting data are slow and I'd like to increase the timeout value, because they are loading but with a delay even from the web browser.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Extending the timeout value for links to external data
Try adjusting the setting marked as Update every __ seconds. 60 is the default.
The wording of what this does, via the help file online, makes it sound like this might be the option you are looking for.

Re: Extending the timeout value for links to external data
Nope, it is not what I am asking for.
The data I am getting is on some slow pages. These pages are loaded even to any browser slowly. But they do load.
What I want is to increase the time that my Calc is waiting for a link to respond to it when Calc tries to update.
If let us say Calc tries 3 seconds, for a link to load the data, and timeouts after that time, and those pages actually are loaded in 5 seconds, refreshing more frequently will not Change anything.
Any other suggestions, please?

Re: Extending the timeout value for links to external data
Hello People,
As nobody is replying to this message, I understood that it is not doable with any available Options.
Now a different question;
As this is "Open"Office, is there a way for me to find and Change this related Parameter, somewhere in the Code? Anyone who might help me in this?

As your signature shows LibreOffice 6.3 you probably want LO source code - https://www.libreoffice.org/about-us/source-code/
Or you could submit an enhancement request - https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport

Can you do it the other way round? Get the data independently and when you have the data it, start LO.
Better, get it, say, every hour and store it locally. LO gets it from the local copy.

How will I get it and store automatically to somewhere LO can read?
I thought Calc's Link to External Data would be the best thing to automate this kind of requirements.

Re: Extending the timeout value for links to external data
Link to a place the data is stored on your hard drive.
I saved the entire web page www.openoffice.org/ to my desktop as Fred.htm. When I type C:\ in a browser I can navigate to Fred.htm and it shows as file:///C:/Users/John/Desktop/Fred.htm in my browser.
I inserted a hyperlink to Fred.htm into the attached file. Clicking the link opens the stored web page.
Click HELP on the pop-up window or see the Calc manual for more help.
I would download the page often and make a check when using it in LO that it is fairly recent in case the auto-download has stopped working. Or auto-delete it every hour or two so if it hasn't been refreshed it isn't there and you get an error. Or pull in the date the file was written as the age of the data. Or store a local copy of the web page in the browser cache and keep on refreshing it - LO reads from the cached page.
Or use Tools > Customise > Events ..., to run a macro when a? the? spreadsheet opens which kicks off getting the data and waits till it has arrived before allowing the user to continue? putting up a message "OK to continue"?
There are many ways to do it if you are creative.

Reinforcing Villeroy's suggestion, this link suggests that what you want may be configured via the expert configuration tool.
