This feature is not avaiable in Calc. Read section 3. Dates in cells in Ten concepts that every Calc user should know.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

In this situation I would select all the cells, Edit → Copy, open a new spreadsheet, Edit → Paste, and save in ODS format. If you have more than one sheet, use the Insert → Sheet dialog and copy/paste the others to the new file. Then enable Edit → Changes → Record.

Change recording in the file is handled differently by other spreadsheet software, like Excel, so one is asking for trouble to open an OpenOffice spreadsheet (ODS) with change tracking in Excel, or an Excel spreadsheet with change tracking (XLS or XLSX) in OpenOffice. This may not be related to the reason you are having difficulty with that sheet, but I have noticed that people are more likely to have OpenOffice/Excel problems when change recording is in use.

This is true, particularly if MS Office file formats are used (.xlsx and .xls).

Note that OpenOffice will read (sort of) .xlsx, but not Save using that format.
