so I have one sheet with listed items - call them categories
in new template documents I want to be able to choose or select from this category sheet (it will may change over time)
is there a way to create a drop down list from another sheet?

so i copied list into document i want the drop down list
copied location
pasted in cell range in data/validity -
viola
deleted pasted first step reference
there is syntax in making the external document reference that I don't know but this works...
BTW - FYI - can not move list in the sheet - error 514 occurs - so get drop down where you want it...the first time

If you will upload your file, we can look at it and try to determine why you're getting this error when you try to move your reference, as moving a reference, rather than copy & pasting it, which might not update the references.
