Text in input field not appearing in cells

Open Office calc, text in input field not appearing in cells why not

What are you using as an "input field"?
The 'Input line' of the formula bar?
The 'Name Box' left of the formula bar?
A form control?
The cell area?
Something else?

The input line of the formula bar. Thanks for helping. To clarify this issue, if you place the cursor on the actual apparently empty cell the text appears in the input field of the formula bar.
The spreadsheet has been in use for many months without any problems. This issue occurred after retrieving from a save function.
