Hi,
After entering data into two columns for about 300 rows, I saved the file.
I reopened it and In see the data is all messed up in many cols.
Why on earth would it do this and how can I get it back to what it was please?

Did you save the file as a .ods file, or in some other format? How is the data "messed up"? Does it for example have cocky poo on it
Cheers

[SOLVED] Colums data moved after saving and reopening ?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I fixed it by changing the panel on startup. Somehow the 'Space' option was ticked and as soon as I did that, it all came back.
I have written name etc with spaces between them so with that ticked it assumed they were fields.
Not sure about the cocky poo. Sounds a bit yucky
Thanks again

Sounds like you saved your file as a plain texf file, which Calc recognized and thought that the column separator should be the space character. A similar occurrence happens when importing a properly formatted CSV file, but in that case the comma is the separating character.
To (hopefully) prevent this in future, save your OpenOffice documents using the Open Document Format (.ods for spreadsheet, .odt for Writer, .odb for Base, etc.)

Re: [SOLVED] Colums data moved after saving and reopening ?
From your description, you have saved the file in CSV (comma separated values) format and tried to re-open it. You should save your files in the native format that AOO uses - in the case of Calc (spreadsheet) files this is .ods. That way the structure and format of your spreadsheet will be retained.
