"Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed'
It is trelated to the mail sending function. You need install a real (and local) email client software (like the Thunderbird) for this function. But the next infirmation is very strange:
What action are you trying to do when you get this error?
We are changing the text in a cell.
Is it a pure text or is it a Link, Hyperlink? If it is a pure text, then try to reset your User profile in AOO4.1.6.

...Or maybe you hit some hotkey accidentally and the "send the document" function is assigned to that key?

A quick test shows that right-clicking on a cell with an e-mail address will highlight the cell, and bring up a menu....but there's no Edit in that menu, so once that menu shows, just ignore it, and press F2 to go into the text editing mode.

By default Calc will recognise URLs including email addresses and format them as a clickable link to create an email - subject to a suitable email client being available on Windows. Web addresses are treated similarly.

You can turn off this behaviour via Tools | AutoCorrect Options, select the Options tab and uncheck URL Recognition.

Note that existing addresses will be unchanged; you can select the cells and use Ctrl + M to set them to default formatting.

The links (like the email addresses) will work, when you click on it. It will call the email client software.
Use the method to edit them described by RusselB.

And you can adjust the working method of the links (Ctrl-Click or pure click) in the settings - against the accidental clicking:
Tools - Options - Open/LibreOffice - Security - Options - Ctrl-click required to follow hyperlinks

Is this in respect of existing email address, or new ones you are adding? If the former, note that I said above
"Note that existing addresses will be unchanged; you can select the cells and use Ctrl + M to set them to default formatting."

Navigate to the cell using the keyboard arrows. Once at the cell, press Ctrl + M to clear the formatting that displays it as a clickable URL and reset the formatting to default settings. Or as I suggested above, select all the affected cells and use Ctrl + M.

Looks like this last suggestion might work. Will get back on if there are issues. Thank you.
