replace values accordingly by a function.

Postby pathum kalhan » Thu May 09, 2019 9:09 am

Hi I've two spreadsheet files.
category_list.ods
subcategory_list.ods

category_list file has two columns name and id_new, id_old
subcategory_list also has two columns name and category_id.

right now subcategory_list's category_id refers to the id_old

My goal is replace id_old with id_new in the subcategory_list file. How do I do that?
Any clue?
Any article?

I am very new to this spreadsheets.

While this may be possible, we really need to be able to see the actual structure of the files, so please attach copies of each of the relevant files.

[Tutorial] VLOOKUP questions and answers

The task will be easier if you copy (temporarily) the replacement table from the category_list file into the subcategory_list file. You'll use VLOOKUP to create a new column new_category_id. Then, select these cells. Edit → Copy. Edit → Paste Special → Paste All → Text → OK. This converts the VLOOKUP formula to text. Now you can delete the category_id column.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.
