On my old computer I created Excel flles in Microsoft Excel. I moved those files to a brand new computer. On the new computer I wish to use only Open Office, not Microsoft Office. When I open one of the old Excel files on the new computer with Open Office Spreadsheet, almost all entries, including row and column headers and dollar signs, are displayed twice in each cell.
For example, a column of cells that should display
Payment
$45.09
$23.76
0.00
actually displays:
PaymentPayment
$45.09$45.09
$23.76$23.76
0.000.00
If I select an empty cell and type: $3.67 ,
when I press ENTER, $3.67$3.67 is displayed.
If I open a blank new Open Office Spreadsheet on the new computer and type entries in cells, there is no duplication, all works normally.
I have many large Excel files from my old computer and cannot re-type all of the entries. Can anyone help?

Re: Spreadsheet: all entries duplicated
Try the LibreOffice. It has a littlebit higher compatibility with the never standardized, obsolete file formats like the MS binary ".xls".
