[Solved] Opening a *.ods.data file
[Solved] Opening a *.ods.data file
I accidentally deleted an Open Office 4.1.5 Windows 10 spreadsheet. I recovered the spreadsheet from my Norton (Cloud) Backup, but it came back with an ods.data extension. I can open the recovered file, using OpenOffice Calc,
but the result looks like what one would see trying to open an XML or HTML file using a text editor. If I just "double click" the file, Windows 10 asks for an app or wants to search the Microsoft store for one. Norton Tech support
has no answer and suggested posting my issue to this forum. Any suggestions?

Re: Opening a *.ODS.DATA file
It sounds like you have the content.xml file that is one component of a complete ods file. Can you upload it here so we can look at it.

Re: Opening a *.ODS.DATA file
The Forum message is "The extension data is not allowed" so I can not attach it via the forum "Upload attachment" tab.
If you send me your email address, I can email it to you as an "ordinary email with attachment"

Re: Opening a *.ODS.DATA file
I changed the file name and it opens fine in Calc.

Re: Opening a *.ODS.DATA file
I can open your sample file in my Libreoffice 6.1.4 and the AOO 4.1.5 portable versions, after I renamed it "EJ18Tax.ods"
(I just deleted the .data extension from the file name, and replaced the ampersand character from the file name.)
My attached file was saved with the LO:
