Column A has text. You must not enter nor import text dates.
Select the A values
menu:Data>Text to columns
No separator
Choose field type "Date (DMY)" at the bottom of the dialog.
Next time avoid this error. Date conversion may yield wrong results.

(I never use functions of the kind. However, I know how to calculate with finances basically because I had to teach it. For "fun" I looked at the example and expected a result between 5% and 10%. Then I looked at the result of the XIRR formula in the example and got about 6.342 which is 634.2%. Now I calculated the returns based on guessing with 6.342% by my homemade formulas and got the result from cell B12 with a difference of a few cents.)

My question: Can it be that XIRR returns a hundred times the rate it should? Is there implemented the fundamental error of not distinguishing the "percentage" as a rate from the "number of percents" describing that rate?

Sorry! It was really silly. Thanks to Villeroy who looked closely, of course! (See his post below.)

Have a closer look. The formula in B16 multiplies by 100
