[Solved] Spreadsheet opens in read only

Post by CapnBill »

Hi, I have a spreadsheet for my accounts and opened it this morning to see what I now think is a page offering me to choose a theme (it's covered in different types of arrow graphic).

I finally discovered that clicking the Edit File button would make my spreadsheet reappear. Now, however, it is in 'read only' mode. I've tried creating a new spreadsheet (to copy the data into) but I just get offered the theme page again. In the past creating a new spreadsheet would bring up, well, a blank spreadsheet.

Does anybody know how I can either get out of read only mode or start a new spreadsheet to copy the data into? This is rather frustrating and as a non-specialist I dont even know where to begin. Thanks in advance.

/Tools /Gallery should kill the display of arrows; you then may have no need to click the Edit button.

I think what your are seeing is the Gallery. Select the menu Tools -> Gallery to hide it. Whether the Gallery is visible or not should not affect your ability to edit the document. If you just close and reopen the document, is it still read-only?

Thank you very much for those astonishingly quick replies! It was indeed the Gallery on display and it has now gone, everything is back to normal!

It may seem trivial to experts but for me this was next to unsolvable. If you don't have the correct vocabulary it's impossible to find by googling or trying to search the forum, so thanks again.
