[Solved] Need to increase pricing by a percentage

Post by janellem@tranter »

I am trying to increase the pricing in multiple cells and columns.
Example: I am working with our 2017 pricing spreadsheet and need to increase all of our prices by 5%.
I have multiple columns with multiple rows of pricing that I need to increase. I have done this before but can't remember what I did. I think I multiplied all of the individual cells by 1.05 but can't remember how I did it to all of them at the same time, and can't remember the formula that I used.

[Solved] Changing the value of a column by a percentage
Since you have multiple columns, the Paste Special method (end of the post) may work better for you.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

SORT OF SOLVED - I got one cell to multiply with the paste special method, but all of the cells won't multiply.

Check that your price values are actually numbers and not text.

View > Value Highlighting: ON will display numbers in blue and text in black.

You can also click on a cell and look at the input line just above the cell grid: if you see an apostrophe or currency symbols at the start, there's a good chance that the value is text, in which case you'll see no change with "paste special".

If you want specific suggestions, some sample data, or a sample sheet, will help.
