[Solved] Fix for Read Error-Sub Doc??

Post by dunleaper »

Urgently need to find a fix for my spreadsheet that has suddenly corrupted. I have read many posts but I can't find a way. I've hunted for hours for xml reader and various ways to fix (zip etc) - can't find a way. Any help or instruction is appreciated. There is no backup... :(
I have attached the error message and the file if that helps.

How did you do that??? That is a miracle! THANK YOU! :D :D
Is there something I can know for any future problems? I'm worried it may happen again.

I opened the .ods file with an archive manager, then inspected content.xml with an XML editor (XML Copy Editor). That told me that the error was a duplicate attribute at line 2, 60555 (as you reported). I went to that location and found that there were two XML attributes of the same name (I can't remember what the attribute was). I removed one, got XML Copy Editor to check the file was well formed (i.e., no further errors) resaved content.xml and inserted it into the .ods archive. Then I checked that it would open with OpenOffice.

Thank you. I could not find an xml editor to read it nor could I get it to produce the file by zipping. I will look for an archive manager and editor. Thank you again.

Usually an OpenOfffice file can be opened by the operating system's built-in archive manager; it might be necessary (at operating system level - i.e., outside of OO) to rename the file to type .zip, so that the archive manager knows what type of archive it is. A plain text editor can be used to edit content.xml, although a dedicated XML editor is much easier.

I did try that a number of times - with no luck but if it happens again I will use a different zip, and better editor. Thanks for the details it will be a big help.
