Is there an extension or a way that I can use Calc with many rows... I need about 600k rows and seems calc maxes out at about 200k

Calc support 1048575 rows in the recent versions. What is causing you to think it only supports 200000? Are you really on that early version in you signature?

Slightly off topic of the original question, however, I'm wondering if Calc is the right tool based on the number of rows required.
At 600,000 rows, it would not be unreasonable to presume that there's a minimum of 3 times that for number of cells required, thus 1,800,000 pieces of data.
While still a beginner with databases, I have to wonder if registering the spreadsheet as a database might not be a wise idea.

I just loaded a .csv file (600001 X 3) with LibreOffice so any up-to-date version of AOO or LO should have no problem with the number of rows but I'd second RusselB's suggestion that a data base seems more appropriate with that much data.

Why do you run a 12 year old version of OpenOffice on a recent Linux desktop? If you are running Linux Mint 18, you already have LibreOffice installed.
If not, run sudo apt-get install libreoffice on the command line.
