Typing into Calc cell doesn't show until I move cursor

I am using Linux Opensuse tumbleweed and Libreoffice calc 5.4.0.3. When I open my saved spreadsheet, and try to type in the cell where the cursor is located my typing doesn't show. I have to move the cursor to another cell and then back to the one that I want to write in. Is this something that I can change in settings and fix or has anyone else noticed this and found a solution?
