[Solved] How to preserve Row Height

Post by haku »

Hi!

New at Calc - so simple questions for the moment.

1. When having formatted a cell so that text wraps around, normally the height of the row adapts itself to contain the whole wrapped around text. Today, working on a sheet, this went on normally - but all of a sudden the column height did not adapt itself any more and remained (for that sheet) at a 'standard' height of 0,47 cm for one line (whereas the 'adapted' height for two lines is 0,82 cm).

Just don't know why this happened.

Perhaps I have to check or uncheck something somewhere...

Thanks for a reply.

What filetype are you using?

Always use the native, International Standard ODF fileformats (.ods in this case).
You will lost some formatting properties (or some data/formula...!) when you convert your documents into foreign fileformats. There is not (never was and never will be) 100% compatibility between the different fileformats.

And please upload your sample file here.

(Of course it's urgently recommendable to use native file formats. However, I can't see for what reason Zizi64 assumed the OQer did otherwise.)

I also get situations now and then, where the automatic adaption of row heights fail, in specific on recalculation.

First approach: Select all (Ctrl+A or leftclick on the intersection of label bars for rows/headers or go through menu), rightclick one row header, set explicitly 'Optimal Height...'

If the issue persists or arises frequently, and there were events (crashes, blackout...) that may have left a corrupted user profile:
Second approach: Reset the user profile.

Third approach (only after recalculation with failing resizing of the heights): As-if edit one of the blank cells in the afflicted row. (Enter space and back-delete it again e.g.)
On Windows 10: LibreOffice 24.2 (new numbering) and older versions, PortableOpenOffice 4.1.7 and older, StarOffice 5.2

A workaround tip:

Use a User defined cellstyle for a cell (for a used or for an unused cell) in the row, and adjust the property of the cell style:
Borders - Spacing to contents - Top/Bottom
values larger (you can unsynchronize the values).
