The LibreOffice is compatible with the Strict version of the OOXML standard. The LO Can open and save .xlsx files.
The MS Office supports the Transitional version of the OOXML Standard by default, but you can adjust this property in the MS Office:

The development of the AOO is very slow.
The newer versions of the MSO can open the ODF format documents.
Note:
There is not (never was and never will be) 100% compatibility between the different fileformats.
Use the International Standard ODF fileformats - if you want to work safely and efficiently with the open source office suites.
