Calc Page Print Weirdness

Post by Prop »

Hi,

I've got a xslx file that I'm generating using xlsxwriter (Python library). The file print previews/prints fine in Calc on my Ubuntu box but is weirdly scaled down on my Windows 7 box (and also Excel).

I've tried all the usual tricks with setting fonts and such but no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Change it. On-screen dimensions do not fit print dimensions.

Right, but it's the print dimensions we're looking at here? Print preview not the view of the cells.

Either way changing the zoom up doesn't affect the print preview or page if I actually print it.

On screen display does not affect print dimensions. In print preview there is a setting for scaling of the job to paper. Check your margin settings and paper format on the two computers.

Hmm, margins and print scaling are all set the same but it still looks/prints differently...

Actually it looks like the actual column widths are different on both versions... On windows the A column is shown as 3.38cm but on Linux it's 4.22cm... This is from exactly the same .xlsx file. Any ideas why that could be?

It is possible that different fonts are being used; the font OO shows is the font being called for, not the font actually being used.

Working in .xlsx is problematic. .xls is better, and .ods is best.

Unfortunately I gotta use .xlsx because it's what the Python library supports :(

I've tried a few different fonts for the doc and it's definitely changing the text style but doesn't affect the cell spacing at all. Is there a way to see what font it's actually using / how it's deriving the column widths?

Thanks,
