[Solved] Are these files corrupted?

Post by spencerbarron »

Hi, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me if these files are corrupted beyond repair.
I've followed other threads to check for back ups, recoverable files, tmp. files etc.
Thank you

Nanpantan.ods is certainly corrupt and blank. benefit.ods is damaged and I doubt there is any prospect of useful recovery from it, but I haven't time at present to investigate in greater depth, so wait for other confirmation.

Here's what I was able to recover from benefit.ods

The "loss" file is content too badly damaged to recover, but you may be able to pick out some useful data.

Let me know when you've got them and I'll remove the attachments.

Thank you very much.
For your information the data in benefit.ods is the content of another file Authors Scholars.ods
This file is available and complete on my computer so you can remove the attachments.
Perhaps you have some experience of this occurrence in the past?
But it looks to me like the files I submitted are gone.
Big sigh!

Such file loss may happen because of over-hasty or improper close down of the computer; the OO file format is complex and takes slightly longer to write than a flat file. One should not (for OO file safety) hibernate a computer with open OO files; one should also use the formal shut down procedure or hibernate procedure and then wait a few extra seconds (ten ought be sufficient) for all disk activity to cease before powering off the computer. This allows time for the software and hardware write buffers to flush to disk - remember there are hardware write buffers within hard drives, so these must be given time to clear before power is removed.

I said:
"For your information the data in benefit.ods is the content of another file Authors Scholars.ods"
It appears that Authors Scholars.ods is corrupt too.
Please can you advise if it is corruptible beyond repair?
If so do you still have the benefit.ods file?

Authors_Scholars.ods is showing up on my computer as corrupt. The internal content.xml is also corrupt, unable to be opened with my XML editor.

If necessary, I have the corrupt version which I can upload for further processing. You will, I am sure, understand that moderators and volunteers on the Forum acquire such an accumulation of files that we regularly housekeep and delete them from our machines. acknak may have deleted the files off Forum in the belief that you had downloaded the repaired file and did not wish its contents exposed to general view.

It does seem to be badly damaged. Here's everything I could get from it.

Thank you

It's beginning to make sense.

The data in benefit.ods and authors scholars.ods has been transposed.
You managed to recover data from both and it is perfect and I can use it.
There were two sheets within each file - are you able to recover sheet 2 for each file?

I haven't been clear about benefit.ods
I originally said I discovered the contents within authors scholars data and that I could access it
When I received the recovered benefit.ods from you I deleted it and can't find it using Recuva

Can you send me the recovered benefit.ods data again please?

Here are the two files I attached previously:

File "benefit_loss" is content too badly damaged to include in the recovered document, but you may be able to pick out some data manually.
