[Solved] Open a .csv file with Calc

Post by djn0275 »

using 4.1.3 and Windows 10
When I open a .csv file with Calc, numbers have a ' preceding; as a result, no calculations can be done with those fields. How do I get those fields to not have the leading apostrophe?

On the Text Import dialogue there is a section "Other options" - make sure "Detect special numbers" is checked. If you still have issues, come back and tell us.

Open a new document and use the menu Insert -> Sheet From File to import the data. After selecting the file you will get a Text Import dialog where you can try a couple of things. In the Other Options section, check Detect Special Numbers. In the Fields section you can click on the column heading and then use the drop down list just above that to set the data type of the column. If those don't fix the problem, please post a few rows of data from the csv file and explain which columns are not importing correctly.
