Excel to WordPad to Apache OpenOffice Calc conversion

Post by stubtoe »

Morning All
I changed over from Win7 to Win10 (bad move)... some months ago and lost Excel among other things, anyway my son used the Excel Spread sheet to develop a spread sheet for Gas and Electric usage and calcs, but on c/o to Win10 the desktop shortcut for the Gas & Elect spread sheet is now presented as a WordPad gobbledegook document.

My son is a wizard with spread sheets and the like but has very little time for !!!??? Anyway he's put Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 on my computer. The WordPad doc can be used if I ' open it with OpenOffice Calc ' and magically reverts back as an Excel Spreadsheet, all a darn mystery to me.

My question is how do I make this permanent, my son mentioned ''file association'' another mystery, but life is a Mystery thats why we all like it. Can someone please help...joe

The way I know to do this is to right click on a file, in this case of type .xls, and choose Open With from the popup menu. Select OpenOffice or OpenOffice Calc from the choices offered. There is also another way to do this in Win 10, but I don't know it.
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16 on Xubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
