How to export a Chart in ODC format?

Post by santimirandarp »

Hi! im using Oppen Office Calc in a Linux distro.
I'm trying with a set of data and need only the Chart for a presentation.
The question is: How can i export a chart? The format must be .odc. I'va been trying, clicking on the graph, but when trying Oppen office says: "False parameter".

It will be great some help, im really dissapointed :(

I don't believe OpenOffice, or LibreOffice, export odc files. See http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/form ... 0437.shtml. Why do you need that format? Won't a copy and paste from Calc to the presentation work? You can also paste into Draw and export from there in a variety of image formats.

While the ODC format isn't listed under the formats that Zamzar works with, I have gotten files converted by them into formats that weren't listed, but were still valid for conversion purposes.
You might want to consider giving them a try.
Please note that there is an increase in the time required for situations where an "unsupported" format is requested.

When clicking on data and data-graph with "Ctrl" key you can go to "Save as" and save it in .odc format, but it's not practical. I use it because when exporting in .odc it is not only the graph which is exported, but the data.
I'm not sure if Zamzar could be useful, but i will look at it.
Anyway, thanks for the answer

I neither do understand this celarly nor can I verify it "experimentally" with AOO 4.1.2.
In LibO 5.2.2 I simply doubleklick the 'Chart Area' and going > 'File' > 'Save' or 'Save As...' then, I get offered to save as .odc.

Again a little problem with understanding. But: A "Chart without any data" would be not a chart at all in my understanding, but just an image. I dont think that the odc-format is capable of keeping such images. In fact the connection to the original 'Data Ranges...' in the spreadsheet file is broken, and the data are moved to a 'Data Table...' which is stored in the odc together with the properties needed to generate the diagram. This is the same process as is performed when copying a chart from a spreadsheet and pasting it into a Writer document or a Drawing.
