[Solved] Opposite of FORMULA

Post by gru »

Hello.
OpenOffice Spreadsheet question
If
Cell A1 content is:
55
Cell A2 content is:
=A1
Cell A3 content is:
=FORMULA(A2)
Cell A4 content is:
=ISTEXT(A3)

the result will be:
____||__A___|__B__|__C__|__
1___||__55__|_____|_____|__
2___||__55__|_____|_____|__
3___||_=A1__|_____|_____|__
4___||_TRUE |_____|_____|__

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So the function named FORMULA returns TEXT of the function inserted into some cell
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Question
Is there some BUILT IN function that would do the opposite
That would take a textstring as an argument and use it as a function

=someStrangeFunc( TEXTSTRING)

Something like:

____||__A___|__B__|__C__|__D__|__
1___||_=5*5_|_____|______|____|__
2___||_=A1__|_____|_____|____|__
3___||_=IF(A1>A2,1,2)____|____|__

and if D1, D2, D3 has function inserted
=someStrangeFunc( TEXTSTRING)
____||__A___|__B__|__C__|__D__|__
1___||_=5*5_|_____|______|_=someStrangeFunc( A1)
2___||_=A1__|_____|_____|_=someStrangeFunc( A2)
3___||_=IF(A1>A2,1,2)_____|_=someStrangeFunc( A3)

these will produce

____||__A___|__B__|__C__|__D__|__
1___||_=5*5_|_____|______|_25__|__
2___||_=A1__|_____|_____|_25__|__
3___||_=IF(AA1>AA2,1,2)__|_2___|

Thank you

PS. I am not asking about custom functions or macros
but about built in functions

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

No. However you can convert a cell containing the text of a function into a function using [Tutorial] Text to Columns, Q39/A39. But there is no =EVAL() function for spreadsheets.

Search found 11 matches: +EVAL

If this answered your question please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.
