[Solved] Spreadsheet can't be read on Version 4

Postby stephenmid » Sat Nov 07, 2015 10:51 am

I have a spreadsheet which works fine in Version 3, but if I try to read it in Version 4. It loads and fails with this message. "Due to an unexpected error. Openoffice has crashed. All the files you are working on will be saved now. The next time OpenOffice is launched, your files will be recovered automatically. The following files will be recovered." and then no files are listed.
Any ideas, please?

Is this only happening with that one file?
If so, was the file created in AOO Calc or imported from elsewhere?

jrkrideau, thanks for replying.

Yes, the only file that doesn't work. The file which was created back in 2002. No idea what format it was originally maybe Microsoft Works or Excel. Lots of data, lots of graphs. Works fine in open office version 3.

Stupid question that I should have asked before, "Did it ever load in Version 4?"

If it is not confidential you might want to upload it here or to a file hosting site such as MediaFire or Dropbox so we can see if it just your machine or the file that is the problem.

Some of the AOO gurus here might be able to have a look at the raw code and make some suggestions if the file seems to be at fault.

In the mean time don't remove AOO Verion 3.

Thanks for help.

It never worked version 4. Just that I have a new computer with version 4 on. My old laptop I have kept with version 3. No, not confidential. Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h5soy68ftbedz ... 2.ods?dl=0

This file is still editable in LibreOffice.
Of course, it should be a database.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Opens in gnumeric as well so it looks like a fairly minor glitch.

A database does seem like a good idea in the long run.

Thanks a lot Villeroy and jrkrideau - maybe I will just use LibreOffice (checked it worked for me as well) You are both right about converting it to a Database, just been lazy it started off very simple and got more complicated. Will have to learn how to create it in a database format.

New info, after saving it in LibreOffice, it now works in OpenOffice! - typical glytch.

Loads more slowly in OpenOffice though

Thanks again for all your help.
