[Solved] Calc Charts: how to edit Data Labels with a text?

Post by gselvais »

In an X-Y scattered chart, I am trying to replace Single Data Labels by a text ( from cells).
Apparently OpenOffice doesn't allow us to link individual data labels to other cells (and it doesn't let us manually edit the text of a data label). Is there a work-around this barrier?

Greetings and welcome to the community forum!

One way to configure the chart to use a column as data labels:

Under "Data Ranges" assign the column as "Categories" or "Data Labels", then right-click on a data point, Format Data Labels > Data Labels, set "Show Categories" as YES

[OP asked for follow-up by PM]

I haven't tried to use the time line template shown in your screen shot (http://vertex42.com/ExcelArticles/creat ... eline.html) but here's an example using the steps I described above.

That looks great. I'll figure out how to add the vertical "Error Bars" between the Data Point Labels and the X-Axis.
This is "SOLVED"
Thank you
