Migration to Windows 10

Post by jisaacs »

I upgraded to Windows 10 Home 64-bit and find that all of my oo documents are 'locked by Jerry Isaacs' I can download as read only, but when I save them with a new name and delete the old file and then change the new name to the old file name, I encounter the same problem the next time I try to access the file. Can I somehow unlock all of my files and be able to access them without so much hassle?

Tell the administrator of your Windows system about the problem. Seems to be a matter of file ownnership.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Read-only files for any application seems to be a "feature" of Windows 10 upgrade.

Sounds like you may have some lock files left over from before you upgraded. If lock files existed when Windows was upgraded, OpenOffice will think that the file is open by a different user. You have to delete those lock files. Close OpenOffice. In the Task Manager, stop any open OpenOffice processes. Using File Explorer, open the folder containing the files you're trying to open. On the Ribbon, click the View tab and check the "Hidden items" option. Look for files with names like .~lock.filename.odt# and delete them. The filename.odt file should then open without the message.
