[Solved] Save Formulas to Clipboard or Other Tool?

Post by bamashooter »

Is there a way to "store" formulas in Calc for later copy/paste? Thanks.

There are Clipboard utilities which will allow one to use multiple layers on the Clipboard and retrieve whichever layer one wishes. However, OpenOffice does not appear to like many utilities which use the clipboard, so these are not recommended.

One can use a plain text file to hold Calc formulae; from this file one can cut and paste into Calc.

You can use Writer instead of a "plain text file". Or, if you format a cell using Format → Cells → Numbers → Category → (scroll down for) Text, you can store a formula in a cell as text, and it won't be evaluated. To copy that text elsewhere for evaluation, select the cell, press F2, select all the text, Edit → Copy, and use the ESC key to close the cell. You must use F2 as shown. Now you can paste the text elsewhere. Any relative cell references would need to be adjusted manually, as you would need to do when copying from Writer or any plain text file.

That sounds good. I'll try that too. Thank you.
