How do you retain thinner gridlines WITHIN a table and keep a thicker border AROUND a table?
Whenever I wish to create a group of cells in a table, it appears that enabling a nice border around the cells will remove the gridlines within the table. I have used every combination available (?) in Format>Cells>Borders but still seem to be allowed only one style/choice of border. To clarify, in the past when using Excel, you could easily keep the internal lightweight grid, and place a thicker grid around the group of cells as well. This seems impossible to do in Calc, but hopefully there is a way that does not require a fancy set of commands?
I promise, I have searched in this Forum at length but cannot find an answer to this question - so my apologies if it has already been covered somewhere. SURELY, I am not the only one running into this problem. THANKS for any help!

Thanks for the above post, but what I am trying to accomplish is to retain the internal grid AND add a slightly thicker border around that. Highlighting the area for the desired border and clicking OK will add the border BUT REMOVE the internal grid....at least until a solution is discovered.

Re: Borders AND Grids Conflict? Help please!
It's certainly possible, although I'm not sure there is any "easy" way.
The exact sequence of steps here is important.
1) Select the range of cells
2) Format > Cells > Border ...
3) Select the line style for the outer border (say, solid black, 2.5 point)
4) Click on the "Set outer border only" preset (second icon, above the diagram on the left side)
5) Switch to the inner lines: Click in the exact center of the diagram to do this in one step.
Make sure the triangles around the edge of the diagram point only to the inner lines.
6) Click on the line style for the inner lines (say, solid blue, 1 point)
Click OK

Re: Borders AND Grids Conflict? Help please! (SOLVED)
THANK YOU, my genius friend!
The above instruction nailed it. All good now. I must have been suffering from a brief case of Excel-itis.
