Contour line graphic

Hi!
I'm looking for a way to produce "contour line graphic". Two ways....
A) I've a grid of x value by y value. I want to see a contour line graph with colours for different potential on a point x.y. Something like that:

B) I've free (x,y,z) value, I want to see a kind of map, as "Contour line" where each point I see on a x,y also with contour line or colors for the potential of z.
Do you have a soluce?

I think this is far beyond what OpenOffice.org can do. I suspect that you need a much more powerful graphics package. Have a look at the screen shots at http://www.r-project.org/ . The graph of the Maunga Whau Volcano seems similar to what you want. THe CRAN Task View: Analysis of Spatial Data at http://probability.ca/cran/ supplies a bit of bit of information on what is what.
