Advice please about Cal/spreadsheet

Postby bri4life » Thu May 15, 2008 1:15 pm

I want to have 2 pages on a couple of spreadsheets.... page 1 will have names while on the second page there would be the totals for the first page. I can set it up for number totals and i think it would look like this

page 2.... =sum(page1.B1) example.

But how would I do it for a person name to be shown up as a number on page 2?

thanks in advance

Open Office is one of the best tools I have used for a long time

Well if all the names are in a single column, what about just applying the numbers in a column beside the person's name and use it. I imagine that you could do this and hide the numbers column.

Say on Sheet1 you have names in A1:A8 and numbers in B1:B8 then in Sheet2 enter =SUM(Sheet1.B1:B8).

If you want to count the names, you can use the function COUNTA

thanks for the Counta option... One thing, I have set up a sheet with names on sheet 1 and on sheet 2 CountA to sheet 1 and it works. But When I type in someone else's name the total gets added to the name of the first person and vice versa. Is it possible to have a column with the CountA but different names and totals on sheet 2 or is it complicated?

so it would look something like this

sheet 1
Smith
Harry
Evens
Harry

Sheet 2
Smith 1
Harry 2
Evens 2

and so on.

thanks for the help, I feel so stupid I can't figure this out my self :(

For that you need COUNTIF.
