Hi group,
When I enter text into a cell that extends the cell's length and if the cells to the right are empty, the text extends into these cells. I don't want the text to extend, be it that the cell is empty of filled. How can I turn this off?
thanks,
stephan

Re: text longer than cell - but i don't want it to extend
Not sure this is possible. What you can do is insert a column and fill it with a space character in each cell, then hide this column. Then the checkbox "Text overflow" in the menu Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org Calc > View will display an overflow indicator when the text is longer than the cell width.

You can format the cell to shrink the text to fit, or you can wrap the text, although in the latter case you will also increase the width of the row.

You can use formatting: Format >Cells : Alignment : Horizontal = Filled.
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.9 on Linux
