Stock Market spreadsheet

Post by desdichato »

Good Afternoon,

I am going through a spell of wanting to follow the local stock market (when I win the lottery I may have a go), I'm working with an imaginary 50k limit and obeying the ASX rules of a minimum trade of $500 - I have created a spread sheet dating back to 1999 with a random list of companies that I liked at the time and I am updating that spreadsheet (it's already in a current version of calc) but I have got a total mental blank when it comes to better the construction of it....the first thing I am trying to do is to get my fees and charges cell to automatically fill in....I know most brokers here in Oz have about a $20 charge.
I have it set up (at the moment) with purchase date, Qty, Price (each), Company Name, Code, Cost, fees and total and what I would like to see is as soon as the qty is entered the the fees column is automatically filled ...On my sheet I have tried =if(c3>$0.00,then g3=$0.00, c3<$0.00,G3=$20.00) but have failed miserably.

As an extension to the above question which was all about "buying" selling is the other part of it and I was wondering whether it is possible to put something in the row (ie sale date) and have so the row is visible but doesn't come into the calculations?????

Finally I am try to graph the whole experience and again am having how to problems, I have 4 columns with data in them, date, Purchase value, Actual value and profit/loss, but for the life of me I cannot get dates going across the top or bottom of the graph and the monetary values going vertically down the page.

I know I could go on line and create a watch list but the figures do not include fees and neither do I want to register until I have something to "play" with.

Any thoughts, Ideas or suggestions

Thanks

You seem to have a number of questions. It would be a lot simpler to ask one at a time.

As far as watch lists go, the Fairfax papers have a very good (free) service. You can get access through markets.smh.com.au, markets.theage.com.au or the trading room. You can customise the form of your watch list table and download it as export.csv each trading day. The service fails occasionally so it is desirable to have an account with a broker as well.

It may be possible to use a series of nested IF statements to calculate the fee or VLOOKUP. Have a look at combining IF and AND. It's too late for me to start working something out now. The first thing is probably to work out an efficient layout for the document. There may be a template you can use, even an Excel template.
