All you want to do with dates and times: download/file.php?id=7015
However, 31121999 might be no date at all. It is 31,121,999 (31 million ...)

Thanks Villeroy,

I'll take a look at this sheet and if I have questions post back. I'm going to mark it solved as it does what I need it to do. I just need to build around it once I understand the functions that are used. Again thanks for the help

If all you need is the amount of full years (the age) in OpenOffice.org only, =YEARS(start;end;0) will suffice.
My sheet demonstrates how to deal with time units and intervals in a compatible manner, using functions that are common in all spreadsheet applications such as Excel.

That is great. I was only using years, but since you have a great demo sheet I might try to get a little more precise. Thanks again for the help. Will post back if I run into problems.
