[Solved] General Input/Output Error Problem

 Ok, I have a file, I created using calc. On this computer.

When I try to open it I get a general input/output error, which allows me to do nothing except close without opening. If I move my external hard drive to my mom's computer (using the same version and build of Open Office, but Windows 7), it opens just fine. I even tried saving a new copy (of the same file) and it also has the same error.

I've been using calc and OoO since v1.x.x and I love it for its versatility, but this has me stumped.

Delete or rename your User Profile. Details are at
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 74&t=12426

Just in case, make a copy of the file at system level, and work on that, so that you have a definite _good_ version.

Is there, perhaps, a way to open it on the other computer, and change the settings so that I may edit it on my computer?!?

My version is good, just not on this particular computer.

The problem is very probably that the settings for OpenOffice on your computer are corrupt, whereas those on your mother's are not. These are not to do with the file itself, but with the tool you use to open the file. So the only way to cure that is to delete or rename the User Profile on your computer. Reinstalling OpenOffice does not touch these settings; they have to be deleted or renamed. If you are a heavy user of OOo, with customised dictionaries and toolbars etc, then renaming is best.

So, if I don't have many custom settings, I could delete and re-install?
I'm totally self-taught and the link you provided above seems to be beyond me.
Basically, I mean that I don't know what to change, I tried to change C:/Documents and Settings/Owner to C:/Documents and Settings/Sheryl Bales
However Windows says That it is a system file which cannot be changed or renamed.
I also tried making a new folder and pasting the files into it, but my computer doesn't have enough disc space for that.

On my computer (Win2K) the profile is in
C:\Documents and Settings\MyUsername\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user
If XP won't allow you to alter this, you may need to log on as Administrator to have rights to change it. If you are limited for disk space, that may be your problem. You should look to do a disk clean-up of some sort, deleting any *.tmp and *.bak files. You might also clear out any unneeded files from your Download directory. If in doubt ask a friend for assistance, as two heads are sometimes better than one. A neighbour's child who is computer savvy can often be of help.

LOL< Thanks, I'm just pressured for time...
I'm the most computer savvy person for miles around...
And I have no friends...
Long story...
I'll just work on Mom's computer for today, and try to fix it sometime soon.
