How to create a table?
Hi. I really need some help creating a data table in Calc. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to do it.
All I have is a 3x26 grid of data that I want to turn into sortable lists with headers. Similar to what I get in MSExcel when I select a data range and simply press Ctrl-T. I've searched Google, these forums, and scoured the menus in Calc, but I find nothing, only help related to tables in Base. I'm certain I must be using incorrect terminology in my search because this should be a relatively simple task. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hint, a Calc spread sheet is one big table. Enter the the data as you wish. Highlight the part you want sorted. Click Data> Sort you will get a dialog (see attached). Select the column(s) you wish to sort on and click OK.strungoutfan78 wrote:Hi. I really need some help creating a data table in Calc. I disagree. There are no tables in spreadsheets unless you fill some rectangle of cells and treat the range as a table (but still it is just a range of single cells without any table functionality). You can have many tables on one sheet.therabi wrote:Hint, a Calc spread sheet is one big table.
If your table is supposed to be a list with items in rows and item attributes in columns with an optional first row as column labels you should declare the rectangle as a database range (menu:Data>Define...). This allows you to treat more than one range as table in the same workbook or even on the same sheet.
Insertion of rows expands the table (incl. all references to it), deletion of rows shrinks the table.

Re: How to create a table?
[SOLVED] This is possible! But they are still not as functional as MS Office excel (even as far back as excel 2003!)
Tables are some of the most used things you can find in excel, very very handy and very functional with the right formulas
IN OPENOFFICE
You can highlight an area with headers, click on > DATA \ FIlter > Auto Filter
This will then turn the "table" into a sorted by header area, limited to the selected area.
If you do not have headers or have a blank in the headers, it will say there are no headers and will ask you if you want to use headers on the first line <YES> <NO>
Although in MS office excel they have 'proper' tables, you can select the table and it giives you the option to add a new line, it copies the border, colour and any formulas to the next line, it also changes any linked formulas (to entire columns within the table) so that it then includes the new entry into the table, you can also select the table (it actually is called table 1,2,3etc., when you link formulas to the table it comes up with TABLE1 not 2003 though if i remember correctly), edit it, also extra features like 'Add Totals Row' etc. I WISH THEY WOULD INCLUDE ALL THESE IN OPENOFFICE.

- In this picture i have shown you that you can;
use multiple tables on one page
auto change linked formulas (you have to INSERT ROW on the 'any' or last line of the formula)
will copy the borders and colour down
But not the formula within the table
Inserts row across entrie page not just within the table
