Insert today's date

Postby boblarota » Tue Sep 07, 2010 10:53 pm

I recall that Exc*ll had a keyboard shortcut for inserting today's date in a cell but I can't find out how you do this in OO.

All help welcomed,

See:

You can assign the macro SUB to a shortcout key.

Insert>Names>Define...
Name: T [or any other letter]
Refers to: TODAY()
[Add]
[OK]

On the sheet you perform the following keystrokes:
=N [F9] [Enter] [Enter]

Thanks for all that. I best liked the idea of typing the day followed by / that I saw somewhere else. But they're all pretty clunky so I can't really call it solved. I wonder why such a simple thing is missing.

Thanks anyway,

You may change your mind about whether it's "solved". I also wondered why there was no simple way to insert the current date when I first started using Calc. But then I learned about {Day}/ and I use that as my solution. On my system, the current day number is always visible on the screen, so this method is really easy, and I no longer want any special "Insert Current Date" shortcut or toolbar button. If you do change your mind, it will help other users of the forum if you go back and mark this topic as solved.
