Corrupted file (only hashes remaining)

Post by spottis »

I was using Calc (openoffice 3.2.0) and it crashed. I do not have back up file. I have tried "the solutions" mentioned in this forum but it was not successful. Can someone help me? Can I upload the corrupted file here?

My corrupted file has size 719 KB. I do not know how to reduce the size as whenever I open the file it shows only # characters. The file has 14 tabs and it was saved in xls extension.

Here is the corrupted file. I happened when I was saving the file and my computer crashed and restarted. I have zipped the file to reduce the file size.

See that thread: 22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs.

I fear there is no fix. I haven't even downloaded your file, it should be the same as the other ones.

I've split your posts from the original topic BTW since it's not the same problem.

I have tried to save the corrupted file into pdf extension and insert the pdf file into Calc, I can see few characters (machine language?) and some English words. Will this work?

Shall I upload the original corrupted file of 719 KB into mediafire and put the link here? What should I do to prevent the similar incident in the future as I guess my file size is relatively big and it takes time to save the file? I am afraid Windows XP automatically restart my computer when it think that there is problem in file saving.

Thanks for your kind assistance.

The file is definitively lost.

As you can see in the other thread, there is no identified root cause. So no idea about how to prevent that. Even the devs have refused to take care of that problem (see the issue I'd filed).
