[Solved] Calc changing dates after save

Postby elephant » Wed Apr 14, 2010 2:23 pm

My problem is that when I re-open my saved file/s the dates (3 columns) have been changed 2 days prior to that saved.
If I then add more data to the spreadsheet, all of the dates are changed a further 2 days.
This is a vehicle log-book.

I do not have this problem with my cash-book spreadsheet.

Could you please attach the file rather than a screenshot of it?

The file is attached.
The first 'date start' 'date end' and 'date of entry' was 2 July.

Hope that helps.

OK on OOo 3.2 (Sun).
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.6 on Xubuntu 18.04.2 (mostly 64 bit version) and very infrequently on Win2K/XP

I didn't experience the problem either- opening, changing, saving, closing, reopening - nothing changed that wasn't supposed to.
Looks like none of the cells are calculated; is there some macro running that could alter the dates?
Or is there some kind of localization setting that is accepting the date in one time zone (GMT) and displaying it in another?

Is the OP running the Sun version or a Gentoo-linux fork? I have a memory that there can be a date difference beteween Excel and OpenOffice, due to MS miscalculating a leap year day when there was none. A search on the Forum (Search box top RH of Forum screen) should throw this up - look for "dates Villeroy" as I remember he explained the problem. Not using Calc I didn't commit his explanation to memory.

Hi thanks for the input.
I'm running the openoffice-bin from sun.
There are no macros running at all.
As for the localization, my other files open/edit/save/re-open no problems.
I may just start from scratch and see if it happens again. :?

Or that, lol
I was thinking the same thing since it would be fairly trivial.

OTOH, things like that just bug me so I would have to wonder...
You could try this,
go to Tools -> Options -> Calc -> Calculate and make note of the Date setting.
Then open up one of your working sheets and compare the Calculate/Date setting with that.
If they are different, try changing the Vehicle Log setting to the setting of the one that works.

I'm just curious because there is a two-day difference between 12/30/1899 (default) and 01/01/1900 (StarCalc 1.0) which are the first two (of three) choices in my (Eng/USA) version of Calc... Your file is offering me some "[~jewish]" date format codes that I am unfamiliar with and they have years numbered around 5770. So I am assuming you won't have the same dates for "day zero" as me, but just knowing whether or not there is a difference in the setting between this sheet and a working one would be good to know...

Did that, and the Calculate/Date setting is the same - 12/30/1899.
Changed the Veh Log setting to 01/01/1904 and all the dates instantly jumped back 2 days.
Added dates, saved, re-opened a few times and the dates didn't change.
Have left the setting as-is on the cash-book spreadsheet.

Thanks a lot for your help :super: :super: :super:

Definitely a :ucrazy: problem.

When you switch from 1899-12-30 to 1904-01-01 the dates jump back 4 years and 2 days.
All spreadsheet dates are integer day numbers displayed in a different way.
When you format zero as date, zero will be shown as 1899-12-30 or 1900-01-01 or 1904-01-01 depending on that setting.
Normally you never need to touch this. The only exception I can think of: You copy day numbers from another appliciation into OOo Calc. When the day numbers yield the wrong dates you can adjust Calc to the day zero of the other application.

I know that this does not solve your problem. Just trying to explain how things are supposed to work.

Thanks for the information Villeroy. I do not need to import or export dates/data on this spreadsheet, so will just use the new setting.
