Are there no moderators in these forums?

Post by BTFT66 »

 Edit: Split from Drop-Down menus?
Are there no moderators in these forums? My understanding was that these forums were to provide help with Apache OpenOffice. This guy asked if OpenOffice supports drop-down menus and if so how should he go about using them. In response, he is insulted, ridiculed, and told to go use someone else's software. If that is Apache's response to someone's request for help then I have to question the integrity of the program that they have created. Obviously, they are not overly concerned whether their product meets the needs of the user or not.

If the responder is not a member of the Apache team then the moderators should have removed his posts. They are most definitely not doing Apache any justice.

Helping is providing the best advice. If it is to use something else than AOO because of some limitations, then better that than letting the user struggle with a not satisfactory method.
Villeroy is highly knowledgeable in both Calc and Base. His posts can be rough, agreed and he sometimes lack a bit of flexibility like in this case where a spreadsheet could (IMHO) be an acceptable solution (as shown by acknak), even if not the best solution.

If you really question the integrity of the program, then check its code, it's opensource, it is the point.

There is no Apache member in this forum (or at least in the moderation team, or perhaps a PMC, not sure anymore). We are a team of volunteers who came from another forum (oooforum.org that died some years ago). Apache accepted to host the forum on their servers but there is no control from them.

But well, that's the point of a forum: it is a place where you wander, you can meet good guys, rude ones, even morons sometimes, you're free to take it or leave it.
What's the point of necroposting; resurrecting a thread that is more than 10 years old?
