[Solved] Freezing panes

In Microsoft excel spreadsheet package there is a facility to "freeze panes", to hold all data above a selected line to always be in view as you scroll through the data below, useful when viewing charts, tables etc.

I have tried using the search and help facility but cannot find a solution, it may be the terminology?

How do you freeze panes in OO Calc?

Cheers

Ian

In the Window menu there are options to both Split and Freeze. Select a row or column and choose Split to keep that row or column always visible. Choose a single cell and Freeze if you want to have both horizontal and vertical splits that intersect at the chosen cell.

How can the first two (2) columns and the first two (2) rows be frozen?

Put cursor in C3 and select /Window /Freeze (i.e., cursor to the first free - unfrozen- position)

Thanks. Questions are so simple after you know the answer.

Nobody knows everything, that's why these forums exist, so that the people that do know can share their knowledge with those that don't.

It's not working for me on 4.0.1

I've highlighted the top row as a whole, and again individually.
Windows: Split (& I've tried the Freeze). Nothing stays as I scroll.

What is missing?

Highlighting the entire row will not produce the desired result. If you want to keep Row 1 visible click in Row 2 and select Window-->Freeze. If you want to Split the window choose Window-->Split. Its an either or choice.

I resolved this by highlighting the row below it as well as the desired row. For some reason, it negates the bottom row selected and does not work with highlighting the single row I wanted to Freeze to the top.

very happy to get it to function. Thank you

As explained in earlier posts you position the cursor at least one row below or one column to the right of the row/column you wish to split or freeze.

is it possible to freeze rows on the top and at the bottom, or even only from the bottom?

Not with Apache OpenOffice at this time.
