Multi-column Printing

Post by Robin »

Hi,

We're using OO 2.2 to format a price list for our company; the output is only a few spreadsheet columns, but it prints about 20 pages -- we'd like to halve the number of print pages by printing two price-sheet columns on each page (like two columns in a newspaper). I don't see how to do this. Is this possible?

Thanks.

I don't know of a way to do it in Calc.

As a workaround, you can
1) select the cells you want in the output
2) Edit > Copy (to clipboard)
3) File > New > Text Document
4) Edit > Paste Special > Formatted text

That will get you a table in Writer with all your data.

5) Format > Page > Columns = 2, 3, 4... whatever you want.

Thanks acknak for such a quick response.
The only problem is , what if I want to add or delete a line item?
This will either leave a gap or create a short page.

Thanks

Sorry, I don't understand the problem.

If you need to delete an item, you can either delete the row's contents and leave an empty row, but keep the number of rows constant, or you can just delete the row entirely and all the following rows will move up. If there's room at the end of the last column, what does it hurt?

My printing software takes care of that option [both Epson and HP printers.] Have you checked that? Or, there is third party software like that available from FinePrint.

Given how often I've seen this wish, I'm surprised still no one has voted for issue 19124 or 54886. You could register and be the first!
