Adding an overbar to indicate a mean.

Post by jasonw0w »

Hello all,

I would like to know how to add an overbar above a character to indicate a mean. I can't find anything in the character panel but I may be looking in the wrong place. I would be grateful for any help!!

OOo 3.1 includes character overlines (Format > Character > Font Effects > Overlining); that may work for what you want, but it doesn't look quite right for the bar notation.

Better might be a formula: bar x, but that will be a graphic object and may not align with the spreadsheet cell quite the way you want.

Looks good to use a bold overline.
