[Issue] Autofill merged cells

Post by gebeleizis »

I was wondering if is normal and if so why:
I am using merged cells and then I am trying to (auto)fill those as single cells. Now, the problem is that oo is filling the merged cells as they were the original cells:

Merged cells:

Data for fill:

PS: I just red that this is a bug (although it's filled as a bug for oo on ubuntu and I am on winXPsp3)

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Looks like this one: Issue 57432.

So, from 2005? And in the end is a enhancement request?
Anywho, manual fill is what it sure works (merda).

Yes, 2005 and there's only 12 votes for it, so it isn't surprising it keeps getting bypassed for other fixes.

Has this been corrected yet?

I thought I'd add what I learned through my experiments. , if you un-merge your cells, and highlight the number of cells that will be skipped (these will be merged later) autofill will continue with the numerical series. You then will have to remerge your cells. I merge the first one and use the format brush tool over the others.

The problem I'm having however with this is that numerical series will continue, but with non-numerical series, autofill is only copying the same entry.

As far as I know, values other than numbers and cell references do not alter when filled. The series fill will not accept non-numerical values. A series fill may work for numbers in merged cells.

BTW, the issue remains. You may vote for it (up to 2 votes).

YES! IT WORKS!

I was trying to figure out gonkawonka's post:

"... I merge the first one and use the format brush tool over the others."

Explained:
Be sure that the first one that was merged is still selected. Next, click on the Format Paintbrush tool and then select the cells that you want applied. Bingo!

Thank you gonkawonka!
