Reversing the x,y axis on a chart

Post by yelowee »

Hi I really need some help here, I've looked all over the forum and can't find a solution any where. I need a chart of some data I've got in cols C and D but I need the data in D to be on the x axis and the data from C on the y, I also need the data to appear in the C,D cols rather then just switching them around to make the chart right. I'm sure there must be an easy way of doing it but after hours of looking through the help section and this forum I'm still stuck, please help!!

There is a manual but straightforward way to do this. I have a vague memory of "Switch Axes" button, but I can't find it now and it might have been in another application. For the manual method I'll assume your are making a scatter chart.
1. Select the data in Columns C and D and click the Chart icon on the tool bar.
2. Make your choices in Step 1 (Chart TYpe) and 2 (Data Range) of the Chart Wizard
3. In Step 3 (Data Series) you will see a list box titled "Data ranges" on the right. Click on the X-Values within that. The box below the Data ranges list will now be titled "Range for X-Values".
4. Edit the Range for X-Values. You can change all of the C's to D's or click the range selection button at the right of the box and select the data with the mouse.
5. Select the "Y-Values" in the "Data ranges" list and repeat step 4 for the Y values.
6. Continue through the chart wizard by selecting Next.

If your chart already exists you can get the Data Ranges dialog by double clicking on the chart to put it into edit mode, then right click on it and select Data Ranges.
Accomplishing the same thing with line and column charts is similar, but you change the y-axis and the categories (i.e. x axis labels)
