As this is a rather frequent question from users in forums, you'll be pleased to find now a dedicated area for templates:

http://templates.services.openoffice.org/

You can also upload your own templates:
This Template Repository is a place for the submission of new templates made by you, the community!
You created a nice template? Submit it, get feedback and help others to be more productive!
NB: you need an OOo account to upload files, if you've already an account (to access the Issue Tracker for example), you can use it.

Enjoy!
Let's discover the power of the community regarding creativity!

I see no category for mathematics/statistics/science and such things. I have a few nasty sheets covering weird things such as least squares co-ordinate transformation and positional astronomy. Hell I know engineers who up to the late nineties designed roads on a spreadsheet.

This really isn't the place to discuss problems with OO.org sites--we're just users like you. We have no influence on the OO.org sites.

But anyway, the template categories are broad by design, I think. Finer subsets are based on the tags. For example, all templates with the tag "engineering": http://templates.services.openoffice.or ... ngineering

Good Day,

I think the education category is the best for "mathematics/statistics/science and such things...."

http://templates.services.openoffice.org/en/node/9022
Zee File Management System with Calc leading to the overwhelming question of whether My Documents, My Pictures, Libraries, etc. are really relevant when anybody can design their own file access system with ordinary Calc© spreadsheets?

http://templates.services.openoffice.org/en/node/9019
HappyLinked© Monier-Williams Sanskrit Dictionary 1899 which is essentially goodbye to electronic glue and huge PDF files.Nobody can read two pages at the same time and huge books are split into single page PDFs and acessed happily with Calc. My next template will be for the complete works of Lewis Carroll.

regards

I have searched templates and do not fine something I would think would be at the top of the list for templates - business spreadsheets.

Do I just not know how to do the search right? - jb

The templates page is a shame. Extremely poor quality.
