[Solved] Error bars - why not x?

Postby andopando » Thu Nov 20, 2008 1:05 pm

Hi Folks,

I teach high-school physics and want all my students to use OpenOffice for writing their lab reports. One MAJOR issue however, is the fact that Openoffice doesn't do error bars that well. It seems to me the situation is as follows:

In version 2.4 you cannot do x-error bars and you cannot make custom error bars using cells.
In version 3.0 you still cannot do do x-error-bars, but now you can make custom error bars using cells.

PLEASE, PLEASE could somebody in the OpenOffice community fix this and make sure that you can do x-error bars? Only then can I be able to convince my colleagues about converting totally to OpenOffice :D

Best regards,
Andrew

Hi and welcome to the forums.

We're not the developers - just users trying to help other users.

I have to admit I don't even know what an x-error bar is.

But to make a suggestion to the developers (after checking that the suggestion hasn't already been made) see here: [Tutorial] Reporting bugs or suggestions.

Ok - thanks. I'll do that.

In the meantime, perhaps some users out there have found a solution/addon package that can solve this problem for me? :)

If you have a look at this page which talks about error bars as they are currently, you will see in the comments at the bottom someone suggests there are significant technical difficulties in regards to this, although he then goes on to say they hope to have them for OOv3.1 and mentions an issue number to which the link is broken. Very little to go on really.... :|

Ok thanks. I do hope they figure out how to offer it in v3.1.

Here's the issue (I just looked it up by the number from the blog comment): Issue 42946: Error Bars for X values
